These battle rounds are no joke, friends!

One by one, we’re watching incredible singers face off against each other on The Voice. Only one can advance to the knockouts unless another coach steals them.

But at the end of the day, each coach only has 2 steals to spare, which means we saw a few of our early favorites end up on the chopping block last night!

Carson was there to witness it all live and recapped the standout moments from Monday’s battles:

“The steals really are the game changer for the show,” Carson said Tuesday morning. “A whole other element opens up.”

Team Shakira benefited the most from the steals on Monday, with C. Perkins getting picked up by Usher and Luke Edgemon continuing on with Blake Shelton.

Edgemon narrowly lost out to Monique Abbadie in an impressive rendition of Lady Gaga’s “You And I.”

“That could’ve been a one-sided battle with Monique and her big-time personality and big-time voice, Carson explained. “But he really stepped up and impressed all of the coaches.”

Even though Edgemon was saved, a couple other frontrunners weren’t so lucky. Team Usher’s Jessica Childress, who gave up her job to pursue a singing career, came up short while battling against Vedo.

“He ended up going with Vedo, probably because Vedo had so much emotion and stage presence. He’s riding on this whole thing with his mother passing away. It could’ve gone either way. I’m surprised that Jessica wasn’t stolen.”

Another battle that had lots of people talking at the water cooler this morning was Team Adam’s Midas Whale versus Patrick Dodd.

“All three of them were great together, but a lot of comments this morning saying, ‘Adam Levine, what were you thinking? Patrick Dodd has one of the best voices. Why did you let him go?’” Carson said.

Well folks, there’s only one steal and one more hour of battle rounds left to go. Catch all the action tonight at 8pm PT on NBC!
